Consider building a playroom based around developmental needs and open-ended creativity. In addition to always ensuring the space is safe with covered outlets, non-toxic material/furniture and easy to supervise; consider the following:
- Storage: Invest in style friendly storage where children can help put away toys to encourage clean up skills and autonomy.
- Pretend Play: Include a play kitchen or tent to encourages open-ended play. Make the room an ideal space to invite friends for a play date.
- Building Material: Don’t forget items that encourage building. It opens the door to the world of physics, engineering and math as well as providing hours of entertainment and tactile/fine motor experience.
- Art and Music: Include opportunities for children to create and express themselves. Musical instruments, art supplies, and include inspiration by having music and art images available.
